Hacking up WordPress

September 25, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Another day spent hacking up WordPress.  Slowly but surely I am getting deeper into the guts of word press.  It really is able to do a bunch of cool stuff.  And it is getting more and more like a web site management tool and less and less just a blog.  It really does make it easier to setup and mange websites.

Just testing one of the new plugins I installed

Working on Websites and what I learned today

September 25, 2008 by D. Gardner 1 Comment

I worked on several websites today and didn’t get out to do anyselling.  It was good to sit down and do some design work.  I swam 4700 meters today.  I had to stop when I got a cramp in my calf.

I also found some more plugins for wordpress.

One thing that I learned today is that the whole process of manufaturing microchips on silicon wafers is done in a vacuum.  Because everything is so small that free molecules interfere in the process.  Charles Next door neighbor here in Austin, Spencer.  Works in his family business selling the pumps that create the vacuum for this manufacturing.  He also said that space has a better vacuum than we can create here on earth.  When space travel become cheaper chips will be manufactured in space.

Monday is always better!

September 22, 2008 by D. Gardner 1 Comment

I spent a good part of the day out talking to small businesses about websites.  I did get a couple of warm leads.  I always meet a couple of really great people.  I met a Lady Named Jane that was working in a Dance Teaching studio.  She loved the place she worked and really was passionate about the place.  She really did  a good job of selling me on the benefits.  It would be fun to do with Amanda.

I met a guy in a hair cutting place named Roosters, He was from Belaruse and lived in New York for 20 years and recently moved to Austin.  He gave me some great advice about my Hair and what to use for my swimming damanged hair.  He said to get a conditioner called Loreal Paris.  he said to leave it on for a couple minutes and within a few days my hair would be alot better.

I was also able to do a little running and swimming.  2000 meters.  I also ran a bit.  But I am feeling my tendonitis coming back a bit and spent the last 20 minutes walking.

Liz and Charles are moving this weekend.  Which means I will be moving all weekend.  In some ways I am looking forward to it.  Moving fully for 2 days is going to be hard.  But it will be better than any other workout I could do.

I am excited to get out there and meet new people tomorrow.

Saturday – Work and Connecting

September 21, 2008 by D. Gardner 1 Comment

Another Saturday

After finishing school and starting to look for a job Saturday’s have been mostly a bust.  However this Saturday went pretty well.  One of my friends, Mike Wilson has really been helping me out over the last couple of days with a freelance web project.  He has helped me get into Drupal, a web site tool.  I spent most of the day trying to learn this technology.  Mike is the one that did all the work, while I am just trying to learn.  Drupal is really cool and a very flexible tool for website building.  It’s really amazing how much cool technolgy is out there and availble for us to build really cool web sites.

Saturday night, one of my friends called me up and invited me over to his house.  Jayd McFerson was one of missionary companions and we connect every 4 or 5 years.  I hung out with him, his wife Tauni, and their son Coen for a couple of hours we chatted about old times.  We also discussed our current trials.  Jayd and Tauni are inspiring to me.  Just regular people having to deal with some pretty extrodinary circumstances.

Move along.
