Things are coming together

November 10, 2009 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

I have really enjoyed the last couple weeks while meeting a bunch of new people and getting to know some friends better.   I am amazed at how many people are doing cool things.   I wish I had more time to chat with people.  It’s always fun.

Today I attended a lunch where Jeff Kent, of MLB fame spoke. I am such a name dropper.  I didn’t know before today he was LDS.   He said that many players, really good players, were using steroids and that he had to work really hard to compete.  He now own several motorcycle dealerships. He really seemed just like a regular guy.  It was cool because his wife was there and she was very down to earth and nice.

I met with a lady today that consults no profit groups.  She helps them find and focus on their core mission and helps people and organizations with their philanthropy.  Very good very honest lady.  I hope I can refer business to her in the future.

On a funny note.  Our 6 year old son is very good a cleaning up his toys.  He said to Amanda yesterday “Look I cleaned up with out permission.”  very cute.  He can be a handful at times.  But he is always more than willing to help with housework, cooking and cleaning.  Lucky parents are we.

Traffic and Water

October 25, 2009 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Lots of things have transpired this week. I have made several connections and had a couple of good conversations.

This the connection
I connected with David Gaddy, a consultant and motivational speaker here in Austin this past week. He is also an artist and a very creative guy. He spoke a couple of weeks ago at the Launch Pad Job Club. He spoke about scarcity and abundance. The basic premise was that you can look at every situation as a barrier(scarcity ) or an opportunity (abundance). I am going to meet with him again this week and help him get a website going.

This is the traffic
Roman and I joined the youth of the Anderson this past Saturday on a trip to the San Antonio Temple. As always the temple is a good experience. After the temple we went to Chris Madrids. The traffic in Stone Oak, the neighborhood around the temple, is so much worse than when we lived there. The lack of planning is astounding. Just not enough roads getting out of that place.

This is the water.
Getting clean water is a stuggle for most humans on this planet. Having spent 14 months without running water or electricity, I came to understand about how difficult it is to gather and purify water. I found a group called abundantwater.org that is trying to educate people in third world countries to make ceramic/potter filters. Pretty cool Idea I am going to see what I might be able to do to help. We all need to do something.

This is one the Conversation.
I found a lady on twitter that is psychologist and a business consultant. Here name is Anne Perschel. She posted a link to an article in the New Yorker about business consultants. It was interesting because she referenced Fredrick W Taylor, regarded as the father of modern day business consulting.
She is very articulate and has a good handle on the way management needs to be thinking. She also asked me for ideas on what to write to the New Yorker in response to the article.

And as an added bonus I have added new Sexy Bookmarks to the bottom of every post.

New Direction

October 11, 2009 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

I need to look back at the posts and see when I decided to make the change in direction. I had noticed at work I was continually running into road blocks to getting things done. I just seemed to be a stupor of thought.

I was getting excited about my new direction in trying to market myself. Getting up between 3 and 4 for the past several months hasn’t been as difficult as I thought even when I have been going to bed at 11:00 or 12:00. It just seems like there is so much to do. The week before general conference It was really stressful at Micromain. Probably the most stressful week since I started working with them last November. I was just doing tech support, and finding that problems that couldn’t be solved. I didn’t have any time to do any programming or do any research on new stuff. I thought to myself. I wish I could just get laid off and then I could pursue my new direction full time.

I am now know the Lord thought that was a good idea too. I came in Monday morning, which I usually don’t do and My boss came in. I could tell by the look on his face I was being laid off. What a relief for me. Now I can spend full time pursuing what I do best. I thought maybe I would be able to get more sleep. That is not the case. I still am staying up late and getting up early. However, Now I am getting to be able to network with people everyday and write articles for my business website. It’s great.

It’s wonderful how things are working out. I already have two prospects for consulting and a guy at church today asked if I wanted to be an online teacher of a business consulting company he is running.

I also reached 10,000 followers over the weekend and hit my goal to be in the top 50 twitters in Austin by the Middle of October. I can’t say enough about how well things are going.

New Marketing Strategy

October 11, 2009 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Over the past month or so I have found a couple of things that I know will really help my business Grow.  First is Twitter.  I have figured out how to get a lot of followers as yesterday i got into the top 100 Twitters in Austin.  Which is pretty good.  There are 12,000 people twittering in Austin.  I should be in the top 50 By Mid October and into the top 20 by Mid December.  One thing that is pretty cool is there are over 100 other twitters finding me everyday.
