Recession, Depression, Stocks and Credit

December 18, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

We’ll it’s upon us. The economic downturn of our generation.  As with every economic event there are opportunities.

The first thing we need to remember money is not happiness.  Most of the serious happy people I know don’t have much.  And most of the ultra-wealthy I know, people that are worth more than 10 million dollars, are pretty miserable.    Even a bunch of people I know that are making over $250,000 a year are not happy either.

If you are not happy I have advice for that too.  But not here

If you have a lot of money there are so many bargains.  I’m not a licensed stock guy or real estate guy so any advise I give on particular stocks or property don’t hold any weight.  And I believe if you are going to put any money in Stocks you are looking at 5 to 10 years before you are really going to make your money.  None of the options I see for investing money are short term.  This is not the time to save.  This is the time to spend on investments for the future.  Just look at the housing market.  Almost everthing is down.

For those of you like me with very little money, do what you can.  Invest $50 a month.  Learn how to invest.  Lots of the those licensed guys have free advice too.

But I do have advice for those of you who can’t pay all their bills, or all the credit cards you maxed out while you thought the stock bubble,  housing bubble, oil bubble or what ever other economic bubble you thought would last for ever burst and left you with a bunch of unsecured debt.

Most Creditors are willing to make deals, but you need to know how to get them to deal.

I am intersted in how many people would be willing for some free advise one that?

I've got to be better at writing

December 3, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Since my last post I have been to Utah and back.  Thanksgiving traveling and everything went really well.

My new job is really flexible and let me have a couple of days of PTO early which helped.

Staying with Jeff and Ally (Amanda’s Sister Family) was the best.  It was really good because the kids have cousins their ages so they can keep each other entertained.  Wednesday night we had a fire outside at Ally and Jeff’s  and everyone was over.  There was just hot coco and hot dogs because all the real food was being saved for Thanksgiving.  All of this helped Amanda relax and really enjoy the holiday.

Amanda and Ally were amazing with the food.  Amanda was up at 5:30am on Wednesday and worked about 10 hours and then another 8 hours the next day on the food.  As always the Anderson girls know how to make great food.  I did what I could with out getting too much in the way.  Plus I was able to get in a couple of football games on Thanksgiving.  Plus I got to see the University of Georgia(13) Play Georgia Tech(18) the final score was 42 to 45.  Great game.  The UofG’s running back is pretty amazing,  their quarterback may even go pro this year.  So the Gtech beeting them was pretty amazing.

My job is rocking.  I am learning a bunch and starting to contribute.  It’s a great place to work.

I have also found a new music service, thanks to Jen Hannigan, Amanda’s sister.  It’s www.pandora.com.  You just type in the name of a song or a band and then it starts to play music like that.  It’s really pretty cool and I have found a couple of new artists and songs from the playlists it creates.

I have also discovered the Genius feature in itunes.  It is pretty good at coming up with play lists of good music to listen to.

I started a new instructional website on how to make skimboards.  I will put it up on my cool links when I get it a little further along.

That’s all the journal writing for now

I only ran once in the past week.  I’ve got to get better about that.

Bragging up my Kids

October 11, 2008 by D. Gardner 1 Comment

While I believe all parents are proud of their kids I would like to say a couple of things about my kids today.

My daughter scored 3 goals today in her soccer game. She’s scored multiple goals in games before, but today a girl stepped on her foot and a her shoe came off, but that didn’t stop my daughter. She kept going around the girl and scored.

While they are young this is a competitive league where the team was setup and the girls were chosen because of their skill.

My oldest son is currently playing football. On defense he plays saftey. Unfortunately, because of my job search I haven’t been able to see him play in a game.

He also played soccer for 3 years. The thing I like to brag up about him is the last year he played, in a championship game, he scored two goals in that game; one with the right foot and the other with the left foot.

our Youngest is smart, I will post a couple of the lego vehicles he builds. I may even set up a blog just to show his vehicles. He’s only five, and while they aren’t elaborate they are clever. He’s much more advanced in his lego building skills than his older brother and sister were at that age.

I’ll write more later about my kids.

Monday is always better!

September 22, 2008 by D. Gardner 1 Comment

I spent a good part of the day out talking to small businesses about websites.  I did get a couple of warm leads.  I always meet a couple of really great people.  I met a Lady Named Jane that was working in a Dance Teaching studio.  She loved the place she worked and really was passionate about the place.  She really did  a good job of selling me on the benefits.  It would be fun to do with Amanda.

I met a guy in a hair cutting place named Roosters, He was from Belaruse and lived in New York for 20 years and recently moved to Austin.  He gave me some great advice about my Hair and what to use for my swimming damanged hair.  He said to get a conditioner called Loreal Paris.  he said to leave it on for a couple minutes and within a few days my hair would be alot better.

I was also able to do a little running and swimming.  2000 meters.  I also ran a bit.  But I am feeling my tendonitis coming back a bit and spent the last 20 minutes walking.

Liz and Charles are moving this weekend.  Which means I will be moving all weekend.  In some ways I am looking forward to it.  Moving fully for 2 days is going to be hard.  But it will be better than any other workout I could do.

I am excited to get out there and meet new people tomorrow.
