Nature Has It’s Way of Showing off

September 23, 2013 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Over the last couple of weeks or so I have noticed this flower blossoming on the side of the freeway.  I kept thinking to myself I have to take a picture of that flower.  So I did.  I think this is natures way of showing off and saying,   “No matter how big and powerful you think you are you can’t contain me. I will show you my strength through little bits of beauty in the most unlikely places. I will survive! I will conquer!”

Sooo Many Commercials

September 8, 2013 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Over the last two weeks as the start of the American football season has started.  I and my neighbor, both of us have daughters playing soccer, and we are watching a game or two a week of soccer.  We have noticed how long American football takes.  We are used to watching games where there are only commercials during the Half.  The rest of the game is all action.

I completely understand the lust for advertising revenue that television stations need the revenue.  American football seems to be the perfect scenario for advertisers.  However, with DVRs I believe ad effectiveness is going down.  I know I don’t watch any of them.  I do however notice the electonic and painted advertising throughout the game on the sidelines of the soccer game.

I am just happy we get to see as much soccer as we do in the US now.  I wonder if I would have been able to watch a bunch of soccer when I was younger I would have wanted to play more.

Progress

July 28, 2013 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

We watched “42” last night.  It was interesting to see the Jackie Robinson Story.  It was weird to see the prejudice that was so prevalent in America against skin color.    Sadly, prejudice still abounds in the United States today.  Racial tensions haven’t gone away There is prejudice against gays.  There is a divide between the rich and the poor. There is a growing divide between those that believe in religion and those that believe in science.  Outside of the US there is a huge divide between Muslims and Jew/Christians.

Why do we all have the need to put ourselves above others.  The strangest form of intolerance is in my own life.  I like to feel I am better than those that are less tolerant because I am more tolerant.  I’m just a hypocrite.

I also like to poke fun at those that believe they are superior because they know what fork to use at a formal dinner and how to bow to the queen.  I believe I am justified when I ridicule this archaic practice of feel being refined.  I am definitely being a hypocrite when I disrespect them because the don’t respect  that people following the traditions of the English royalty.

Here I am growing up in the most free society ever established and I have a long list of things I feel justified in being intolerant.

Hopefully you are doing better than me.

I need to work on being more tolerant.

Gravity sucks! – It should be illegal

June 26, 2013 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

I’ve always been fascinated with flight. To get up above the world, see it all from up there, the freedom I would feel, what a fantastic experience it would be. The problem is gravity, it’s keeping me down here on the ground.

There are ways I can overcome gravity, but they are usually expensive, commercial airliner, hot air balloon, my own plane are a couple of decent choices. But, I don’t have much money.  If I had enough, maybe I could defy gravity forever. If I could get rid of gravity, then I could spend all my time up there.

Here is the solution! Lets make gravity illegal!

AirplaneForGravityLawIf I get enough people to sign a petition, I bet I could get everyone to vote for it. If I could change the laws of nature, then my life would be perfect. I will make up a cool logo, put it on t-shirts, get people to post about it on facebook. Eventually, we’ll congress to vote it into law and it will be ratified by the supreme court.

A group of nay-sayers and they are getting smaller every day, say I might be able to change the law, but I can’t change the consequences. What do they mean by consequences? The consequences can only be beneficial, Right? Gravity is only keeping the poor, oppressed, and the weak from what they truly deserve.

Freedom from gravity will mean Freedom for the poor, freedom for the oppressed and freedom for the weak. I know we can change the law! I’m already chartering a fleet of planes, as soon as the law gets passed we will all be jumping without parachutes. Then we will be free! Then we will be happy! What a fabulous day!

Please sign my petition!

Another Memorial Day Down

Hail our Victorious Dead!

HailtheGloriousDeadI don’t think what I did really did much to honor our valiant military dead.  However, I am grateful for all those that have given their lives to give me, my family and the country the freedom we enjoy.

I have a huge of list of things to do and I spent most of the day working on sprinklers.  Here is what I learned.

Galvanized pipe is lame.  if the galvanized pipe breaks off in the T, nothing is going to get the rusted metal out of the hole.  Just cut out the offending piece and replace it with a pvc compression coupler.

It’s going to take at least four times as long as you thought it would.
