My 5 year-old son today said “Frank Sinatra is scary”. My wife asked “why?”, and he said “Because he has a green face.”

Virgin River Classic – Judge – freak finger injury

September 11, 2008 by D. Gardner 1 Comment

On July 10th 2008 I helped judge the 12 annual Virgin River Classic Skimboard Competition in St. George Utah.   During the competion,  Dillon Manwaring one of the competitors, who is 23, had the freakiest accident I have ever seen.  I was talking with him today and someone had a video camera on and got the whole thing. Now, a couple of months later he is still having a couple of issues.

Yeah, i need to go to the doctor and check on the status on my finger. its still bent and wont go straight. It doesnt bend all the way down either.

The accident is about 1:45 into the video is the accident, enjoy a bit of skim boarding until then. I’m the guy with the hat. I can’t believe how calm Dillion was during the whole ordeal.

Title of Liberty – Moroni the Hero

September 10, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

One of my favorite Heroes is Captain Moroni. I like the description that is given of him

“Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men.” Alma 48 Verse 17

The more I study him the more I want to be like that man. He loved liberty, he love freedom, he loved his fellow men and he loved God. One of characteristics he posses, that I believe is the most noble, is his willingness to fight for what he believes. We all should be fighting for what we believe on a daily basis. We all need to hoist the Title of Liberty on our towers

In memory of our God, our religion, and freedom, and our peace, our wives, and our children

So often I am willing to sit idly by while injustice is done, while our freedoms are being trampled and others mock what I hold to be sacred. We must fight on.

Web Site Building – Simple is best

September 8, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Today I went out and chatted with a couple of people about web sites. It seems that all businesses know they need one and do what they can about getting them set up. However, there seems to be a bunch of people getting friends they know to set up sites.

From what I have seen in my over 5 years or working with web applications is that lots of people get into the web and discover that setting up a web site is pretty easy.  However, pretty sites are not easy to setup.  Plus if you want them to do a cool thing or two then it becomes so much harder.  Years to learn Harder.

Web Applications take vision, knowledge and a bunch of hard work.  But that is where the world is going to be changed.  The World will be changed one web application at a time.  There are already tons of web applications that have changed the world.  Google, and there ever expanding applications.  WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, and many many others.

But for the average web needs there are web applications that can be installed and configured to make your web presents so much easier.  Come on in the water’s Fine.
