Another day

September 18, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

I was able to swim and do a little running.  Installed wordpress on my local machine.  don’t know why I haven’t done that before.  It was easy now I am going to have to set it up to show people for examples  and more testing.

swimming 1500 meters

5 x 50 bk/br

5 x 50 bk/fr

2 x 50,100,200,100,50

Then I ran out of time and had to quit.  Maybe tomorrow.  Lucky me, I can swim outside so I am getting a bit of a tan.  But the weather is turning colder here in Austin, the water was perfect for swimming.  We’ll see how long I’ll be able to swim in the unheated pool.

Dark Days

September 17, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

This was me at Noon Today!

Today was hard with the job situation.  I picked up a freelance web job on Friday.  However, over the last couple of days it has become apparent the company is in a bit of disarray.  So about noon I could see the freelance thing is not going to work out.  Mentally this was quite a strain.   I just couldn’t get my exercise/workout going.  I will have to get it in tomorrow.

The light at the end of the tunnel is showing a bit because a company I had scheduled an appointment with last week is ready to sign up for a web site tomorrow.

They have a great dry-cleaning business.  I will post a link or a picture of their site when it’s finished.

when all you got to keep is strong
Move along, move along like I know you do
And even when…

Today's wanderings

September 15, 2008 by D. Gardner 2 Comments

Started the day off at about 6AM.  Met with a group of sales people for TravelHost a travel advertizing magazine.  it’s a national magazine that is printed by area.  Shane Dimon is the Associate Publisher.  It’s something I am looking at right now.

I swam and then after swimming I was able to log onto the freelance site and get a $30 job and a $500 job ,we will see how that works out. I also spoke with a company that may commit to a web site on Thursday. I’ve got several other leads.
Today I took some water with me and that help so I could do a little running after. But not much. More running will be later.

I then did some swimming 4000 meters.
5 x 50 back/breast
5 x 50 breast/free
500 free
10 x 100 free
1 x 50,100,150,200,500,200,150,100,50
1 x 50,100,200,100,50

New/Better Interpretation from Bishop Kelly

September 14, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Today was ward conference in the Anderson Mill ward in Austin Texas.

The first speaker was Bishop Kelly. He identified to us a mis-interpretation of the scripture from Matthew 13:45-46

45 ¶ Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

The bishop said he had believed that this parable identified us as the merchant and that we were to be looking for this “pearl of great price” that we should give up all we have to get this pearl of great price. I too have always thought this was a good explanation, and it still is a good view. However, if we look at verse 45 it says “The kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man”. If Christ is the Kingdom of heaven he is the one that paid the great price and we are the pearl. It makes the scripture even more meaningful. We are pearls, worth a great price to our maker.

The second Speaker was Stake President Dickson.
He started off reading a bit from King Benjamin’s address in Mosiah and exhorted the audience to read the 4 chapters of his message.

He mostly said we need to endure to the end.
One insight that he gave was about President Kimball’s “Lengthen Your stride” motto. President Kimball indicated that we must not go fast and then burn out but use tranquil steady dedication to the gospel during one’s life time.
He also talked about Joseph Smith in Liberty Jail and the Lords admonition “All things shall be for thy good”…”Hold thy way”… “Fear not what man can do”.

While I believe these words didn’t bring much comfort to Joseph at the time. I believe they helped Joseph after the trial realize the importance of the suffering. I too am not too comforted during the trial when I hear “All things shall be for thy good.” Only later will I more clearly realize what I learned. At that time I am grateful for my trial and what I learned.

In's and out's of my days

September 13, 2008 by D. Gardner Leave a Comment

Today I awoke early and began my day by watching a bit of news on the Internet to see how hurricane Ike was moving. It was slamming into the Texas coast near Galveston and Houston. The poor folks down there.
I am currently in Austin Texas and none of the effects of the Category 2 hurricane were felt in Austin. My sister-in-Law Jenny and here two daughters Haley and Avery. Have been living without power since 6AM this morning It’s now 8:30PM. We should be praying for them now. I guess a tree fell down in their yard. Daniel Anderson, her brother and I may head down next week-end to help clean up the tree.

I have been attempting to sell a couple of web site services over the past week. I have got some leads but haven’t closed any deals yet. I’ve got to work on my closings this week.

I talked to Amanda today after Paige’s soccer game. I guess the coach blamed Paige for something she didn’t do and Amanda was pretty upset about that. Emerson was also very demanding of Amanda’s attention during the game. I haven’t been home for almost three weeks now and that is taking it’s toll too on her state of mind. I think like us all when we have a bit of a bad day everything seems to look worse. On days like that hope and faith are tough.

Yesterday I swam 3600 meters before I started getting cramps in my feet and had to stop. I did feel a whole lot better than the swim I had on Wednesday of only 1500 meters. I believe it was because I got a good nights rest the night before.

5 x 50 Back/Breast
5 x 50 breast/free
500 Free
1 x 50-100-150-200-500-200-150-100-50
2 x 50-100-200-100-50
100 then I got cramps in my feet.

I think I’m getting in better shape now.
